TURKMENISTAN PLANS TO TAKE PART IN THE GLOBAL EDUCATION TRANSFORMATION SUMMIT

As noted at the government meeting on Friday, the delegation of Turkmenistan intends to take part in the work of the Global Summit dedicated to the issues of reforming the world education system, which will be held in New York on September 16-19 under the auspices of UNESCO. The Summit aims to renew the collective commitment to education in the wake of the pandemic, placing education at the center of a broader recovery effort to transform economies and societies and accelerate progress towards sustainable development.

Turkmenistan supported the idea of holding this UN event, and in the summer held extensive National consultations in cooperation with international organizations. In addition to specialists in the scientific and educational sphere, legislators, representatives of the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, various ministries and departments, public organizations, the Bilim magazine, private educational centers and young SDG ambassadors took part in them.

They discussed the content of education and teaching methods in the 21st century, identifying key strategic changes and tools for rethinking education and accelerating progress towards achieving common goals in the field of education; improving the performance of the national education system, sustainable financing of education by the state and the private sector. The opinions, ideas and proposals expressed during the consultations were collected and summarized in a summary report for the Summit secretariat and in a National Statement of Commitment to Education Reform and National Commitments.

Turkmenistan is carrying out multifaceted work to improve the national education system and ensure equal access to quality education. Commitment to the implementation of the 4th Sustainable Development Goal was confirmed in the recent address of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to schoolchildren, students, teachers and educators on the occasion of the start of a new academic year, which is celebrated in Turkmenistan as the Day of Knowledge and Students. The head of state stressed the social significance of the holiday of knowledge, which "strengthens national unity, gives us strength for new achievements and reaching new heights."

The participation of government members in the celebrations of this holiday, the opening of new schools and kindergartens in all regions of the country, the addition of new provisions to the Law of Turkmenistan "On State Youth Policy" that ensure the continuity of education, are indisputable evidence of the priority of education in the state policy of Turkmenistan.
