TURKMENISTAN EXPANDS COOPERATION WITH THE EUROPEAN UNION

Turkmenistan is expanding cooperation with the European Union in various fields. Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan R.Meredov spoke about the main directions of this interaction at a government meeting via video link.
According to him, in order to expand cooperation with the European Union, meetings and consultations are held on a regular basis within the framework of bilateral instruments, in particular, through the Turkmenistan-European Union Joint and Inter-Parliamentary Committees.
R.Meredov noted that this interaction in the field of strengthening peace and security at the global and regional levels is especially important. In this regard, the delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the regular meeting within the framework of the high-level dialogue on political and security issues "European Union - Central Asia", which took place on July 1 this year in Tashkent. In addition, it is seen as necessary to expand partnership with the EU in the field of achieving stability in neighboring Afghanistan, which is one of the important issues of strengthening regional security.
According to the minister, it is also considered advisable to develop relations with European countries in the field of communications and digital technologies. In order to comprehensively study and master the experience of European states in this direction, it is proposed to consider the possibilities of opening a European Center for Information and Digital Technologies in Turkmenistan together with the EU diplomatic mission.
As for economic cooperation, the Foreign Minister noted that it seems expedient to create a business council "Turkmenistan-EU". The minister named transport and communications among the important areas of partnership. Based on this, he proposed to establish close cooperation with the establishment of the European Commissioner for Transport.
Summing up the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that neutral Turkmenistan attaches great importance to building up constructive cooperation with the European Union. The head of state approved the proposals presented and gave the Deputy Prime Minister specific instructions to expand cooperation with the European Union.
