THE OLDER GENERATION OF TURKMENISTAN RECEIVES THE FIRST PENSION IN 2020

From the first days of the New Year, in accordance with the Decree of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the people of Turkmenistan have received the pensions, benefits and other allowances increased by 10 %.

According to the document, the minimum size of pensions for the participants of the Great Patriotic War is amounted to 1,415 manats per month.

It is important to note that the increase in salaries, pensions, state benefits, scholarships for students is an annual campaign testifying to the consistency and stability of the socially oriented policy pursued by the President of Turkmenistan.

It should be also noted that due to the development of digital technologies, the process of calculating and issuing pensions and benefits, which are transferred to electronic cards, has been significantly improved. The card owners can easily withdraw funds from ATMs or use a card for any payment transactions.

With the introduction of additional services for cardholders, older people will be able to solve many everyday issues remotely. For pensioners, who for health reasons or other reasons cannot use the electronic cards, the pension is delivered home.

Respect for the elders, ensuring high-quality life for them is prioritized by the state policy, which is based on the values and centuries-old traditions of the Turkmen people.

In addition to the annual increase in the size of pensions and state benefits, a number of laws and legislative acts in this sphere have been adopted. Among them is the Code of Turkmenistan "On the social protection of the population." This document stands as a mechanism for improving the pension system, while providing for a wide range of relevant legal, social, economic, administrative and other measures.

The government concerns about the health of the older people. A wide range of medical services is provided to the older generation in health-improving centres, sanatoriums, polyclinics and hospitals.

The International Day of Older Persons, celebrated all around the world on October 1 in accordance with the decision of the UN General Assembly, is included into the national calendar of significant dates of our country.

The election of Turkmenistan to the UN Commission on Population and Development for the period of 2020-2024, testifies to the success of the ongoing socio-economic reforms and the work carried out in the country to improve the living standards of the population, including the elders.

It is important to note that the existence of the state pension system is the basis for ensuring a guaranteed income for the elders, an important component of the universal social protection, which, in turn, is one of the key factors for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
