TURKMENISTAN ELECTED AS A MEMBER OF THE SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION AND COMMISSION ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR DEVELOPMENT OF ECOSOC
Good news on election of Turkmenistan to two structures of the United Nations, which are the part of the UN ECOSOC, - the Social Development Commission in 2021 – 2025 and Commission on Science and Technology for Development in 2021 – 2024, have come form the UN Headquarter in New York.
This fact has become another evidence of recognition of efficiency of home of foreign policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and its high appraisal by the world community. It will also add value to overall picture of success of international relations of our country in the year, which is held in our country under slogan “Turkmenistan – Home of Neutrality” and marked by the 25th anniversary of this status.
Pursuing active open door and cooperation policy, which is based on the principle of positive neutrality, Turkmenistan develops fruitful dialog with the UN. This partnership received new merit for the last several years in the context of improving relations with the leading agencies and specialized structures of the United Nations.
Thus in 2018, Turkmenistan has been elected as a member of the UN Economic and Social Council in 2019 – 2021. Last year, our country has entered the Executive Council of the World Food Programme (2020 – 2022), Commission on Population and Development (2020 – 2024) and Commission on Narcotic Drugs (2020 – 2023).
The news, which have come on the threshold of National Turkmen Horse Holiday, confirmed the trend to expansion of multidimensional cooperation and enforcement of influence of our country on big platform of global partnership.
Undoubtedly, positive practice of our country in achievement of high social and economic indicators is very important in this aspect. Today, national model of development, which was elaborated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and has proven its efficiency by outstanding results, raise keen interest of the world community.
Turkmenistan is ready for active cooperation in order to share its best developments and to adopt the most beneficial from others, as there are bigger goals and objectives ahead.
The Head of the State sees the United Nations and its structures as a basic platform for such intensive exchange and development of coordinated and balanced approaches in solution of issues of global security and stable growth of our state.
The ECOSOC is a central forum for discussion of international economic and social problems and development of recommendations for these states in this relation. Special commissions work on various directions of activity of the Council. It is worth to remind that Turkmenistan has already been elected as a member of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development in 2014 – 2016 and Social Development Commission in 2014 – 2017.
With new election to these organizations, our country is aiming to use the potential in this unique tribune for development of innovative thinking, achievement of consensus in solution of current humanitarian issues more actively.
Focusing on consolidation of economic and social goals, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov pursues gradual policy, which connects these aspects. These are development of equal and inclusive society, support of small and medium business as the main engine of the economy, stimulation of innovations, scientific and research activity and technological developments, digitization of the leading branches of national economy, education sphere and many other issues.
The election of the country to the ECOSOC commissions will give additional impulse to traditional cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN, which strategic character was highlighted during telephone conversation between head of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on April 22 as well as during his visit to Ashgabat three years ago.
Such priority directions of cooperation as stable transport, energy security, combating terrorism, disarmament and achievement of Sustainable development goals have been outlined during the talks.
Partnership inn this spheres has long-term character and is on systematic base. It is based on similar principles and targets for result. In the last few years, bilateral cooperation is distinguished with high dynamics, commitment and specific character. It is based on significant experience, mutual trust, realization of the necessity to develop partnership in wide spectrum of directions.
Turkmenistan cooperates with the UN in security sphere, sustainable development, energy, transport, ecological fields, in development and assertion of democratic institutes. Representatives of number of specialized organizations and institutes of the UN like the UN Development Programme, UN International Children Fund, the World Health organization, the Population Fund and other.
Major joint programme and projects, which are to support in solution of important economic and social objectives, are implemented. In this context, Turkmen leader notes that our country is ready to continue close cooperation with the United Nations.
The UN welcomed and supported big work, which is carried out in social sphere of Turkmenistan including on development of sport, physical training and health improving movement, formation of ecological culture of society, cooperation in this sphere, by its Resolution on declaration of June 3 as the World Bicycle Day.
In general, the status of Turkmenistan neutrality, successful peace-making policy of our country are the core factors of expansion of constructive dialog between the states under the UN format. Election to the above-mentioned commissions is another achievement of foreign strategy of the President of Turkmenistan and another recognition of merits of Turkmen leader in humanization of international relations, their development in constructive and creative course for the sake of the people on the planet.
Membership of our country in these and other structures of the UN will allow supporting the development of practical recommendations aimed at the growth of wealth of people, improvement of quality and efficiency of measures in solution of the utmost modern objectives taking into account gained experience of social and economic development and realization of integrated reforms, which provided advanced positions of our country among dynamically developing states.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlights that our country would continue fulfilling responsible mission in the United Nations comprehensively supporting the activation of constructive international cooperation, having aimed its peace-making and creative potential at the achievement of the Sustainable development goals declared by the UN.
