PRESIDENT GURBANGULY BERDIMUHAMEDOV AND PRESIDENT MOON JAE-IN DISCUSS PRIORITIES OF THE INTERSTATE DIALOGUE OVER A TELEPHONE CONVERSATION

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-In.

Warmly welcoming each other, the heads of the two friendly countries expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to discuss important issues of the interstate cooperation during a telephone conversation.

Expressing sincere gratitude for the concern about strengthening the Turkmen-Korean dialogue, which has reached a qualitatively new level in recent years, the Turkmen leader emphasized that the current agenda of bilateral relations covered almost all major areas - foreign policy, economy, cultural and humanitarian direction.

Within the framework of the constructive conversation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov thanked the leader of the Republic of Korea for the support of the neutral foreign policy pursued by Turkmenistan, as well as important initiatives put forward by our country with the aim to strengthen peace, security and international cooperation for sustainable development.

Reaffirming the affinity of positions of the two countries on key issues of the global agenda, the parties agreed to further strengthen mutually beneficial partnership in the world arena.

Speaking about the constructive nature of the established partnership both in a bilateral and multilateral format, the interlocutors highly appreciated the fruitful character of the Republic of Korea - Central Asia Cooperation Forum

The Forum significantly contributes to strengthening mutual trust and enhancing contacts between the participating countries in various fields, including energy, transport, ecology, health and culture.

According to the President of Turkmenistan, the development of trade and economic ties, including successful cooperation with Korean companies in key sectors of the economy of Turkmenistan, occupies a special place on the agenda of the multifaceted bilateral partnership.

That is vividly exemplified by the projects on the construction and modernization of oil and gas and gas chemical complexes, in particular, an ultra-modern polymer plant in Kiyanly.

“Turkmenistan considers the Republic of Korea as a reliable business partner and is planning to build up productive cooperation with the Republic of Korea based on great potential and mutual goodwill. We welcome the work of Korean companies and will continue to provide the necessary assistance to their activity in our country”, the Turkmen leader said.

The parties emphasized the importance for the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two states to continue and intensify partnership, further development of mutually beneficial relations.

Underlining the important role of the bilateral Intergovernmental Committees and Business Councils in the development of mutually beneficial relations, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Moon Jae-In expressed confidence that the regular meeting of the Turkmen-Korean Business Council held the day before would further deepen interstate trade, economic and investment cooperation.

Moreover, the sides emphasized the exceptional importance of traditional cultural and humanitarian ties. In this regard, the parties specified medicine and health care as the promising areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Close interaction between the relevant departments of the two countries is seen as particularly relevant given the extremely serious challenge that the whole of humanity is facing today - an infectious disease caused by a new type of coronavirus. As highlighted, effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic requires joint efforts of the entire international community. Expressing gratitude to the Republic of Korea for sending medical supplies and personal protective equipment to Turkmenistan, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underlined that he considered this step as a manifestation of friendship and trust between the two peoples.

President Moon Jae-In congratulated President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the upcoming public holidays and noted that a high-ranking representative of the Republic of Korea would participate in the festivities on occasion of these holidays.

In conclusion, the Turkmen leader assured President Moon Jae-In that the foreign policy of Turkmenistan would always prioritize cooperation with the Republic of Korea. Thanking the Turkmen leader for the proactive approach to building mutually beneficial relations, President Moon Jae-In noted that he always remembered the state visit to Turkmenistan in April 2019 with special warmth.

Reaffirming the interest of his country in enhancing a multifaceted dialogue with dynamically developing Turkmenistan, President Moon Jae-In invited the President of Turkmenistan to visit the Republic of Korea at any convenient time. In conclusion of the telephone conversation, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Moon Jae-In wished each other good health and further success in responsible activities, and prosperity to the peoples of the two countries.
