IMPLEMENTING SDGS IN ASIA AND THE PACIFIC: NATIONAL EXPERIENCE AND INTEGRATION

The delegation of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan took part in the VIII Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development, organized under the auspices of ESCAP.

The Turkmen side at the meeting was represented by Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan R. Nuryagdyev, as well as the heads of a number of departments of the Ministry.

The annual intergovernmental forum stands as a platform to support the countries of the Asia-Pacific region in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, to identify regional trends, consolidate and exchange experiences.

Speaking during the forum, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan R. Nuryagdyev told about the activities carried out by our country. Particular emphasis was placed on the nationalization of the SDGs. In particular, it was emphasized that as a result of the measures taken, 17 goals, 136 tasks and 180 indicators were approved in the country.

In 2019, the Voluntary National Review of Turkmenistan on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals was presented at a high-level political forum held under the auspices of ECOSOC in New York (USA). R. Nuryagdyev emphasized that the work done in the framework of the preparation of the Voluntary National Review made it possible to assess the achievements and identify important tasks.

Discussing the crisis phenomena caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it was noted that the Government of Turkmenistan had taken a number of measures to minimize the economic and social consequences of the pandemic.

During a constructive and mutually interested dialogue, the participants exchanged views and expressed their commitment an integrated approach to address the issues put on the agenda of the forum.
