ORAZGUL AGAJANOVA: THE FIRST TURKMEN WOMAN - HERO OF SOCIALIST LABOR

This year, the first Turkmen woman, Hero of Socialist Labor, Orazgul Aghajanova, would have turned 100 years old.
It is estimated that out of more than three hundred citizens of Turkmenistan awarded at different times the title of Hero of Socialist Labor, at least more than half are agricultural workers. More precisely, these those are associated with the cultivation and collection of cotton called "White Gold" in the East.
Moreover, if such a prevalence of the awarded in relation to other professions may seem somewhat strange at first glance, then for specialists, and those who directly invest their work in this business, this is quite logical and understandable.
It is no coincidence that female hands had better collect «white gold». Therefore, there are many women among the heroes-cotton growers of the republic. The hard work of harvesting the harvest requires a special endurance, patience and perseverance. In addition, who, if not a woman, has these qualities?
The future hero of labor of Turkmenistan joined cotton growing from her youth. For residents of the village of Sonali, Takhtabazar etrap, where she was born, cotton was the main agricultural crop. Therefore, almost the entire adult population was engaged in its cultivation and collection. This became natural for Orazgul as well.
The work of cotton growers was not a novelty for her. At first, it was only surprising why their cotton was called Egyptian. Later, the old-timers explained that the variety they cultivated was brought from distant countries. The competitive features of the Egyptian variety were smoothness, silkiness and shine. Fabrics made of cotton fibers of different weights and weaves were soft and durable. Later, due to the high cost and the appearance of new-zoned varieties, the Egyptian was abandoned.
Once in the Komsomol youth link, Orazgul at the age of 26 becomes the leader of her group. In addition, at the same time, she achieves her first successes. Its link receives a record harvest - 65.65 centners per hectare. People learn about Orazgul and her brigade not only in neighboring etraps, but also in the republic.
Record follows record. Agadzhanova is now known in the republic. She breaks out into the "leading Stakhanovites." The accelerated pace of work leads to the fact that on April 5, 1948, for obtaining high yields of cotton, O. Agadzhanova was awarded the high title of Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Hammer and Sickle gold medal by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. At that time, she was 27 years old. A year later, for her selfless work, she was awarded the second Order of Lenin.
At thirty-two, fellow villagers choose their countrywoman as chairman of the Sonali village council. In addition, after a while, the deputy chairman of the collective farm for culture.
Therefore, for Orazgul, social work begins, in which the main thing for her is caring for people, including her fellow villagers. She helped everyone - someone with specific help and care, someone with a kind word and advice. Moreover, this did not go unnoticed. In 1961, she was sent to Moscow. Together with other elected leaders of production, she takes part in the work of the 22nd Congress of the CPSU.
Subsequently, O. Agadzhanova was elected a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the republic, a deputy of the Supreme Council (parliament) of Turkmenistan. However, she always remained simple and open for everyone who turned to her on all issues.
Having gone on a well-deserved rest, Orazgul did not move away from people. For many years, fellow compatriots, and she remained to live in her native village, came to her for advice and support. They remember her to this day. For them, she was and remains just a kind and caring person with a big open heart.
