SVETLANA GURYEVA: “I AM PROUD OF MY DAUGHTER”

The mother of the Olympic medalist Polina Guryeva, the first in the history of independent Turkmenistan, experienced an indescribable sensation for the second time in the last month. As Svetlana Anatolyevna Guryeva told in an interview with our correspondent, she experienced her first off the chart emotions on the day of her daughter's triumph at the Tokyo Olympics, when the flag of Turkmenistan was raised in honor of her silver success in weightlifting competitions in the weight category up to 59 kg at the main complex competitions of the four years. And the second time - on the day of honoring Polina Guryeva at the state level in Ashgabat when the President of Turkmenistan presented a three-room comfortable apartment, a Lexus 570 Sport Plus car, 50 thousand US dollars for her high achievements in sports, and also awarded her the highest sports title - Honored Master of sports”.
- Honestly, I did not expect that my daughter's modest work would be celebrated so high, at the state level, - Svetlana Anatolyevna admitted. - This is another example of how our respected President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov cares about athletes, how highly he appreciates their work.
- What feelings overwhelm you now?
- They are beyond words. Today is the happiest day in my life. I am proud of my daughter, who raised the flag of Turkmenistan at the Olympic Games in Japan and justified the confidence of the President of the country, who not only cares about the health of the nation, but also creates excellent conditions for the development of sports.
Our family is very touched by the fatherly deep attention to us from the head of state. We are very grateful to the leader of the nation for the generous gifts, which, I am sure, will inspire my daughter to achieve even greater success.
- At the beginning of her sports career, did Polina go in for gymnastics?
- Yes, she did gymnastics and acrobatics. But the love for the barbell turned out to be stronger. She has been involved in weightlifting since she was 12 years old.
- What do you think helped your daughter to perform successfully at the Tokyo Olympics?
- Its impossible to say in one word. Polina went towards this goal for a long time. Her hard work in training, plus the competent work of the head coach of the national team of Turkmenistan Artur Pavlovich Emiryan and excellent conditions for weightlifting brought the desired result. Today, thanks to the efforts of the distinguished President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, one of the world's best sports bases has been created in the country, which causes not only pride, but also instills confidence that our athletes will more than once raise the flag of Turkmenistan at the most prestigious competitions on the planet.
