Today, Turkmen citizens celebrated the International Day of Neutrality and the 26th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Resolution on the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan. On the occasion of the glorious holiday, celebrations were held throughout the country, the focus of which was the capital. Here, with the participation of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, a flower-laying ceremony was held at the Monument of Neutrality, embodying the triumph of the high fundamental principles of the Turkmen people – peacefulness, good morals and humanism.

In the congratulatory address of the head of state to the people of independent neutral Turkmenistan, it is noted that our policy of peace and trust is the basis of international security, stability and development. In a short time, our country has accumulated valuable experience in establishing partnerships with members of the world community, leading international organizations that are aimed at ensuring peace, global security and sustainable development, based on the principles of friendship, mutual respect and trust, as well as coordination of international efforts.

The legal status of the neutrality of our sovereign state has been recognized twice by the international community, and therefore we solemnly celebrate December 12 as the International Day of Neutrality. Our proposals in the field of developing international trade and economic relations, ensuring environmental security in the light of climate change, as well as initiatives aimed at protecting the environment, achieving energy security and creating international transport corridors have been widely recognized worldwide, the leader of the nation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasizes in his message.

The National Anthem of Turkmenistan is being played. The leader of the nation lays a wreath at the memorial plaque installed at the foot of the majestic Monument erected as a symbol of eternity and inviolability of the principles of the international legal status of permanent neutrality acquired by our sovereign state.

Following the head of state, wreaths and bouquets of flowers are laid by the participants of the solemn ceremony.

The status of neutrality delegated to Turkmenistan by the Community of Nations is a clear confirmation of the high appreciation by the broad international circles of the foreign policy strategy based on the principles of peacefulness, humanism and openness inherent in the Turkmen people. Moreover, with the declaration of neutrality, the countdown of a new era in the life of not only our country, but also the entire international community has started. Since this event has become a new word in the history of world diplomacy.

Peaceful, respectful attitude towards other peoples, their culture and traditions, tolerance, which are the basic criteria of neutrality, have found a new qualitative content in the foreign policy and diplomacy of Turkmenistan. In the modern era, our country in fact confirms the compliance of the Turkmen model of neutrality with the ideals and goals of the UN, its effectiveness in combining international peacekeeping efforts in the region.

Turkmenistan, relying on its neutral status, consistently increases interstate cooperation, using its geopolitical, economic, resource and human potential for accelerated entry into a number of countries with a high level of development and quality of life.

Thanks to the active expansion of the framework of multi-format cooperation with both individual states and international organizations, our country’ foreign policy has gained the support of the Community of Nations.

This was evidenced by the adoption of Resolutions “The role and significance of the policy of neutrality in maintaining and strengthening international peace, security and sustainable development” and “The role of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia” in 2020 and 2021 at the sessions of the UN General Assembly on the initiative of Turkmenistan.

In an effort to maximize its peacemaking and creative potential, Turkmenistan is increasingly acting as a generator of new ideas and proposals. They confirm our country’s intention to continue to fully promote the regional and global processes of sustainable development, the achievement of the Millennium Goals, and the formation of effective models of multilateral cooperation to address priority issues on the international agenda. One of such initiatives was the Resolution on proclaiming 2021 as the International Year of Peace and Trust.

Speaking about this at an expanded session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan held on December 10 with the participation of heads of diplomatic missions and consular offices of our country to foreign countries, as well as some other leaders, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan has made every effort to make this year full of creative initiatives and events.

All this is aimed at forming the bases and formats of relations, achieving their effectiveness, as well as creating conditions for a joint, coordinated solution based on mutual respect for existing issues and challenges, the nation’s leader emphasized.

It should be noted that, guided by the status of neutrality, the Turkmen state has been actively strengthening partnership with other countries of the world, major international and regional organizations for all these years, and the geography of this multi-format cooperation is constantly expanding, being filled with new concrete content in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Upon completion of the solemn ceremony, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov warmly said goodbye to its participants and left the venue.

...The continuity of the most valuable humanistic traditions of mankind is an unshakable principle of the Turkmen people, who deeply respect the ideas of peace, mutual understanding and friendship. And that is why today, on the International Day of Neutrality, festive events were solemnly and inspiringly held in all corners of our country.
