THE TURKMEN DELEGATION TOOK PART IN THE MEETING OF THE OIC MINISTERIAL COUNCIL ON AFGHANISTAN

On December 19, 2021, in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, an Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was held on the topic "The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan", in which a delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V. Hadjiyev took part.

In its speech, the Turkmen side stressed the particular importance of providing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people. In this context, it was noted that at the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan, a number of social facilities have been built in Afghanistan in recent years: a school, medical institutions, and a mosque. Humanitarian convoys are sent on a regular basis, the last of which was organized on December 14 this year. The humanitarian aid sent to Afghanistan included oil products, foodstuffs, and children's clothing.

At the final Resolution of the Extraordinary Meeting of the Heads of the foreign policy agencies of the OIC member countries, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, the provisions on the need to continue economic cooperation in order to improve the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and in this regard, the implementation of large energy, transport and communication projects, such as the TAPI gas pipeline, line power transmission "Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan" (TAP), creating new opportunities to improve the social welfare of the Afghan people have been included.

This document also emphasizes the importance of the 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), held in Ashgabat on November 28, 2021, and adopted as a result the "Ashgabat Consensus for Action" for solving the humanitarian problems of Afghanistan.
