TURKMENISTAN - RUSSIA: FOR EXPANDING MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL COOPERATION

On April 9, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation A. Overchuk, who arrived in Turkmenistan on a working visit at the head of the government delegation of his country.
During the meeting, a wide range of issues related to the implementation of the agreements reached during the top level negotiations was considered. An exchange of views took place on key areas of bilateral cooperation in the context of the telephone conversation between President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin that was held on April 8.
The Foreign Minister of our country stressed that Turkmenistan and Russia have been strategic partners for many years. Our state attaches great importance to the expansion of bilateral relations, which are traditionally based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and respect for of each other’s interests.
In this regard, the progress in stepping up Turkmen-Russian relations in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, energy, cultural and humanitarian fields and in other areas was highlighted, taking into account the accumulated rich experience of successful cooperation and the huge potential available.
The parties stressed the similarity of views on the promotion of international mechanisms aimed at maintaining peace, stability and security on the regional and global scopes.
An expanded meeting was attended by the heads and representatives of a number of state institutions, including the leading sectoral ministries and departments, as well as business communities of the two states.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country R. Meredov and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation A. Overchuk, the Co-Chairmen of the Commission, highlighted with satisfaction the fruitful nature and growing dynamics of bilateral relations, especially in the field of trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation.
The meeting agenda included issues related to the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation, the outcomes of activities carried out with regard to practical implementation of the agreements reached earlier.
The priority areas of cooperation include the trade and economic sectors, the fuel and energy industries, the electric power engineering, transport and communications, agriculture, etc. At the same time, the high interest of Russian companies in projects being carried out in Turkmenistan in various fields was specified.
Issues of Turkmen-Russian regional cooperation, which in recent years have been filled with a new quality and content, were also considered. Its range includes large industrial and cultural centers of Russia including the Republic of Tatarstan, the Astrakhan Region, the city of St. Petersburg, and other regions of the Russian Federation, direct contacts with which make it possible to determine the most relevant points of application of joint efforts to fulfill the potential of interstate relations.
As part of the exchange of views, the meeting participants also spoke in favor of strengthening cooperation in the humanitarian, scientific and technological fields. Pointing out the importance of expanding cultural contacts, including through participation in international festivals and other creative forums organized in Turkmenistan and Russia, the parties were unison in opinions on strengthening effective ties in the field of sports and tourism as priorities for state development of both countries.
At the end of the meeting, expressing gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for paying active attention to the issues of bilateral partnership, the participants expressed confidence that the present meeting would give a new impetus to the further strengthening of a constructive dialogue between the two friendly countries.

Today, during meetings in a number of ministries and sectoral departments of Turkmenistan, including the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with representatives of state institutions and private companies of Russia, an interested exchange of views has taken place on various aspects of mutually beneficial business partnership.
It was emphasized that thanks to the balanced investment policy based on broad international and regional cooperation, as well as the measures taken to improve the financial and banking system, Turkmenistan, under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, maintains consistently high rates of economic growth and positive dynamics of development.
Having declared their readiness to take an active participation in the implementation of national projects, taking into account the large-scale programs launched in the Turkmen state aimed at digitalization of the economy, modernization and diversification of the industrial sector, establishment of high-tech industries, representatives of the Russian delegation, including business people, made specific proposals on building up mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.
