ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPAIGN DEDICATED TO WORLD HEALTH DAY

These days, at the initiative of public organizations and the Ashgabat city administration, an environmental campaign is being held dedicated to the World Health Day, which is celebrated on April 7th. As is known, the President of Turkmenistan S. Berdimuhamedov on March 25 this year at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of the country announced the decision that the resolution initiated by Turkmenistan "Integration of mass cycling into the public transport system to achieve sustainable development" was adopted by unanimous decision of the UN member countries.

At the same meeting, the head of state noted the special importance attached in Turkmenistan to the popularization of the bicycle "as an environmentally friendly, affordable and reliable mode of transport", as well as the role of cycling in maintaining the physical health of the population.

The resolution initiated by Turkmenistan concerning the promotion of cycling and adopted by the UN in March this year is not the first. Recall that in 2018, the Community of Nations adopted a Resolution establishing the third of June as World Bicycle Day.

The tradition of organizing mass cycling marathons in the country, bringing together many cyclists, has its historical roots in Turkmenistan. It is known for certain that the first cycling society in Ashgabat (Ashgabat) was established in the early 90s of the 19th century. And the first race of cyclists of the circle took place on June 25, 1895. Even then, Ashgabat residents perceived cycling events as one of the best means to improve the health of the population and popularize cycling. Such events previously and now motivate their participants to engage in their favorite sports, carry a positive charge, combining entertainment and promotional functions.

The current environmental campaign is a worthy continuation of the good traditions of caring for the environment.

There is no doubt that work will continue in Turkmenistan to popularize mass cycling and promote its integration into the public transport system in order to achieve sustainable development.
